A Thought For Thursday {What Is Family}

Pinned Image

I believe you can choose your family. Family doesn't have to mean you have the same blood running through your veins, in my opinion. I consider my friends my family. And I certainly consider David and the kids my family.

So, it really hurt me and made me angry for someone to suggest this week that the kids should spend the holidays with their 'family' – meaning, not their father and myself. We are a family. Each night, whoever is praying before dinner, tells God thank you for allowing us to be a family and be together. We have made our own little family – and don't doubt for a second that I don't love them or wouldn't do anything in the world for them.

We create family with the people that we love and want in our life. The people we laugh with and cry with. The people we celebrate with and the people we are there for in their time of need. The people we sit down to dinner with every night or wake up with in the morning.

Family is more than a word. It's a way of life. You earn that way of life through your actions.

  1. I couldn't agree more! I've only been married to my husband for almost 7 months, but his family has considered me a part of their family for years. Same for my parents with my husband. We've got a few close friends that we consider family as well, that's why they are there for all the family functions.

    It's more than just a word, it's a feeling!
