David and the kids are HUGE baseball fans. When I say huge, I mean, they are true Texas Rangers fans and love all things baseball. The boys play baseball and the girls play softball - and we talk about baseball a lot. I always swore I would never be one of those 'baseball moms' that you saw at the fields all the time, travelling to all the games, getting excited and mad and sad. Well, that's me now. Never say never.
So, I've learned more about baseball in a few short months than I ever thought possible and I've actually grown to enjoy it. It wasn't a stretch for me at all to mention to David that we should look into playoff tickets. The Rangers were playing at home Saturday in Game 6 and tickets weren't a whole arm and a leg. So, in one of the only spontaneous decisions we've ever made, we bought them and crossed our fingers that the playoffs would go into Game 6.
And boy, did they ever! Watching the Rangers take on the Tigers in the championship deciding game at Ranger Stadium honestly goes on my Top 10 list. And mind you, I've seen and done a lot in my short 31 years. It was more exciting than I knew baseball could be. Sports fans are a breed their own. And it was endearing to see the Dads with their with their daughters - or 3 generations of men enjoying the game together - husbands and wives and big groups of friends.
If you don't follow baseball, the Rangers won. Which means they won the American League Championship and are headed to the World Series again this year. If that wasn't exciting enough, we actually witnessed history - as this is the first time EVER the Rangers have had back to back championship wins!
We got to witness Nolan Ryan accepting the Championship Trophy and Nelson Cruz accepting the MVP. The celebrating going on by the team and the fans was incredible. You would have thought everyone in that stadium had just personally won... and in a way, I guess that had. It's a pretty awesome thing to see so many people, from so many different walks of life, pull together in support of a team they love!
David was like a kid at Christmas! Just soaking up every minute of it! He had never had the opportunity to witness something that was so special to him... and I was so stoked to be by his side, enjoying it right along with him!
We would love World Series tickets, but unfortunately, those do cost a whole arm and a leg. So, we will just have to enjoy them from the comfort of our own home!
Hope everyone else had a fantastic weekend! I know ours was one to tell our grandkids about! And those moments don't happen very often.
