Redefining My Style - Part 1

I've talked quite a bit on here about finding a 'style' that works for me. I have a lot of inner conflict about who I would like to be versus who I am in reality. In my head, I would love to be some glam, rockabilly girl with victory curls and bright red lipstick. Reality is, that's not who I am and that style doesn't work for me.

I recently bought the e-book The No Brainer Wardrobe by Hayley Morgan who blogs over at Tiny Twig. This book is a definite steal for $7.99. Now, I'm about 35 pages in and more inspired about my wardrobe then I've ever been in my whole life.

This is no joke, at 11 p.m. on Friday night, I made David endure staying up with me while I cleaned out my closet and two drawers and got rid of 3 trash bags full of stuff. I felt liberated! David thought I was crazy and just wanted the whole fiasco over with. And no worries, all my clothes will be donated to a charity here in town.

This is why I'm so excited -- I finally figured it out! I've been over thinking things way too much (if you know me, you know this is a common problem for me). It's really super easy. What is it that I wear that makes me feel beautiful, confident and fabulous? When I answered that question things started falling into place.

I wear jeans almost every day. But I don't feel my best in jeans. I go to them because they are easy and convenient. So, bye bye jeans. Those are gone now except the pairs that make me feel like a million bucks. And when I think about when I feel most beautiful, it's when I'm wearing dresses, skirts or some kind of top/dress paired with leggings. So, why not make all of these things staples in my wardrobe and wear them daily with confidence? Well folks, that's exactly what I've started doing.

I'm also trying to let go of all this preconceived notions I had in my head about how to wear the clothes I have. I'm breaking out of the box and pairing things that I normally wouldn't. I'm accessorizing and trying new things. Some work, some don't - but it's all part of the process.

In the coming weeks I want to share how my style and wardrobe is evolving. How I'm making some basic pieces work for me and how I'm taking things I already own and making new and fun outfits with them. This is also going to help me achieve one of my Blog goals for April which was to post at least 2 outfit posts. And I'm also going to share with you some bloggers that I take serious inspiration from. Some of them may not be ones you're familiar with - because I'm not talking about the high profile fashion bloggers, but the ladies out there who are living lives like the one I live!

So, I hope you'll join me on this little journey. I hope you might find a little inspiration or the courage to try something new. Or just to finally have that 'aha' moment like I did and find the courage to just be you!!

And if you want, you can purchase your own copy of the The No Brainer Wardrobe here. I promise, you won't be disappointed.
