An invasion - of sorts...

Well, our home has been invaded by staph infection. Yep, just call us the Dirtybird Family. I understand that this is a common thing for people to pick up these days, but it still doesn't feel good to have the school nurse call to let you know she thinks your 15 year old has staph and someone must pick her up immediately. I promise, the kids bathe, don't play with dirty needles and don't lick toilet seats in public restrooms (well, at least I've cautioned them against this).

Not only does our 15 year old have it, David has got it also - on his lip! Don't even ask, because I have no answer for that one! Two visits to the doctor, a culture and lots of antibiotics and I hope we on the road to recovery. Not to mention, Thursday night I spent like a mad woman trying to disinfect everything in the house so nobody else got it.

We were supposed to have a Christmas party tonight at our house, however, I cancelled because Davids face isn't really suited for entertaining currently (no offense if you're reading this babe).

And to top it all off, we're kids free for the weekend (and this rarely happens). You can bet there are no romantic interludes happening at the Elf House with all this staph running rampant. So, what are we doing with our kids free weekend time? Ordering in food and watching a lot of bad television. I'm assuming this is probably what most parents do when they have a kids free night - so I don't feel too bad about it.

  1. Yikes! What IS a staph infection? It sounds...serious? Well, at least a night without kids is a night without kids. Hope you feel better!

  2. Staph is very common and can be picked up anywhere. I've not had it but I work in the health center on a fairly large campus (40,000 students) and we see multiple cases in a week. I hope that everyone heals up quickly. :(
