At one time in my life I put a lot of thought into what I wore, what was fashionable and making sure I stood out from the rest and was always 'on point' when it came to fashion. Then I moved back home, to small town America. Fashion - if you could even call it that - is at least a few years behind the rest of the world. I was tired of getting strange stares when I would show up to parties in my killer heels or dolled up in some fabulous outfit. So, I just let all that go. I know it's not really an excuse, but it's what happened. And in the process, I feel like I let myself go and lost a piece of me.
In the last few months, I've become extremely inspired again. One is because I'm finally figuring out again who I am and what makes me happy. Second is being introduced the world of blogging. Reading all these fabulous, creative, strong, independent women's writing every day (and looking at all their fashion posts) I've become reinvigorated and inspired and ready to start working on my 'style' again - small town America or not (people at the ballpark sometimes look at me crazy when I show up in something other than sweatpants to watch my boys play)!
So, with all that said, I'm going to post some pics of what I wore over the weekend. Please note, I'm also still learning about taking pictures for the blog and not feeling stupid as I pose for pictures I know I'm going to post. Alas, I will get over this, it's just still a tad awkward!

So, I'm hoping to start sharing a lot more of what I'm wearing here in East Texas. I'm slowly building my summer wardrobe up with really cute things that I feel very confident and cute in! To heck with what anyone else thinks - it's all about me!

ReplyDeleteI'm an American living in New Zealand at the moment and fashion here is a bit different than home. It's extremely hip to look slightly disheveled and thrift-store-y here ... lots of scuffed boots and messy top knots - which I can (kind of) get behind. I was once told that I was obviously American because I looked too 'polished'!

Manda Jane you are cute as can be! And to Sarah Von... I get the same thing about being polished... I'm an American in Finland. My sweater sets with coordinating broaches are a dead give away before I even say a word... well and that I don't look Finnish.
