Thought for Thursday {Motherhood}

I may be a step-mother, but I very much consider myself a mother to our kids. They live with us full time. I help to support them, financially and emotionally. I am sitting in the stands (or in my comfy pop up chair) at volleyball games, baseball games and softball games. I make sure they have a homecooked dinner each night and that we sit down as a family, pray and discuss our day. It's my bed they crawl into to talk, read to me or just snuggle down and watch a movie. When they are sick, I make sure they take their medicine or get them to the doctor. When they need track shoes/prom dresses/baseball fees/school t-shirts/softball helmets, I make sure we find a way to get them. I drop them off at school every morning and tell them goodnight every evening.

I may not have given birth to them, but I still feel like their Mom. I'm there to comfort them when they are sad. Yell at them when they are bad. Make tough decisions that I don't always want to make. I try to set an example for them every single day of the proper way to act and do things. I teach them right from wrong and that their is a consequence to every action. I talk to them about life and the future and what all this great big world holds for them.

I say a prayer for each of them every night before I drift off to sleep.

I will always refer to the kids as "our kids" and it will always be "our family." I believe that God put me in David's life at just the right time, because the kids needed me. And I needed them. And almost a year into our journey, we are all truly starting to see that and realize it. We have good days and we have bad days. But at the end of the day, we all have each other. And that's what counts the most... that the kids will always know that I'm here and I'm not going anywhere.

**Please note when I say 'I' do all the above things for the kids, I'm strictly speaking from a motherhood role. David is the best Dad a kid could want. He does all the above and more. He was a single Dad for a couple of years before I came into his life and I admire all that he has done and continues to do for our kids.**

  2. Such a sweet post! I couldn't agree more with you. After all the chats we have, I see how incredibly much you love those kiddos & know you love them as much (if not more) than a birth mother does. I'm so happy that y'all have found each other!

    Your family is a wonderful example of what a family should be. <3
