Thought for Thursday {Working at Love}

To me, this statement couldn't be any more true. We (Prince Charming and I) like to say we fell in love due to fate. However, it does take work to stay in love. Now, don't misunderstand what I'm saying here. I'm as in love with David today as I was the first time I ever knew I was in love. However, relationships take work. You have to invest time and energy into them. I do not have a perfect life or a perfect relationship. I'm not a perfect girlfriend. We are human and we fight and bicker and don't always see eye to eye (just because I don't blog about it, doesn't mean it's not true)!

I feel like our situation is so different than a lot of new couples, because from the beginning it has never been just 'us.' We never had that time that most couples do to enjoy every second with one another and go on adventures and dates and just devour the time spent. David has 4 kids and they have been a part of the package from day one. This makes falling in love, building a relationship and a life, very different. I had to fall in love with not only him, but 4 kiddos and an entirely different lifestyle than I had ever envisioned.

Staying in love is work as well. It's very easy to get caught up in being parents and running a household and working full time. There are days where it can feel like we are more business partners than lovers. And that's where the work comes in. Making time for one another. Communicating how you're feeling. Weekend getaways. Taking the time to appreciate one another and do small things. Believe me, there are times where we've forgotten all of that and it takes a long heart to heart to get back on track. We have to remember that 'we' need a relationship too - that exists outside of bills and kids and jobs and cooking and cleaning.

With all that said, all the work is worth it. And I would never change our life for anything. There is always bad with good. But the good days far exceed the bad. And if it's ever the other way around, then guess what, it will just take a little more work.
