Canton Trade Days - Family Adventure

We have a trade days that happens the first weekend of every month in a town called Canton that is about an hour away from my hometown. My mom and I frequent quite a bit - my dad rarely goes (though he chose to join us for a fun filled family adventure on Saturday). Canton has something for everyone. They have the older stuff, the stuff you have to hunt through to find the treasure and where you can make a deal. Then they have the pavilions where everything is new products, along with a lot of artists and hand crafted jewelry, cute tees and baby stuff galore. I was really excited this time to hit up the older portion of Canton to look for the deals, as I continue to expand and create for Elf House Delights. I have a plethora of ideas of things I want to offer, just need to jump in there and get started. I did find a few good things to start working on some new projects - but have decided that I really need to be hitting up garage and estate sales each weekend (my mother, who has suddenly become excited about the small business) has been designated 'Saturday Treasure Hunting Scouter.' Anyway, I digress. I also found some super cute things that I just couldn't pass up for me (of course) - so I will share those as well.

We started our adventure around 9 a.m. this morning -

My first purchase of the day - and something I'm excited to share and to use was this...

This is 100% whole wheat flour that is milled in Hydro, Oklahoma at P Bar Farms. I had a chance to visit with the gentleman from Stone Stack Mill and he really impressed me with his knowledge, as well as passion, for what he was producing! Their website has all kinds of yummy recipes and I'll be using my flour for the fist time tomorrow when I make bread!

It's starting to get a little warm in Texas, so today I think the high was around 83 or so. Can make for some sweating a tad bit of crankiness among the family... but we soldiered on...

Mom and Me...

I would say the biggest find of the day for me was the $2 vintage jewelry bin. I've got ideas to start a line of my jewelry that all includes re-purposed vintage jewelry pieces. So, I found these little beauties to get me started and play around with...

$10 total - now that's a deal

We saw lots of pretty and cool things all day. I spent quite a while trying to figure out what I could do with school lunch trays that were $1 piece. I never came up with anything. Any ideas out there??

Of course, it wouldn't be a true shopping trip unless we had a buggy to keep up with - and fight over all day as to who would be in charge or it and who would push it...

Looks like I lost that round

Here are a couple of the things that I just couldn't come home without:

I visit this booth every time we go to Canton. I have the monogrammed place mats for my fur babies and Jason has a monogrammed place mat for his sweet kitty, Honey. I just can't get enough oilcloth - just one of those weird things about me. Now you know.

This store has some of the cutest tee's I've seen in a long time. I don't normally dish out money for shirts, but this one was just waaaay too cute to resist. And they had at least 4 more I could have easily taken home with me.

Overall, it was a hot and sweaty, but fantastic day out with my parents. We got some good stuff, I got totally inspired with the things I saw and my mother, who is what I lovingly refer to as a 'dream crusher' is now pretty pumped up and excited about making Elf House Delights successful and getting our first Etsy page started.

Mom, Me, Dad

So, stay tuned ... only fun and exciting things to come...

Lots of Love...

  1. Hi,

Looks like you had fun shopping :)

good luck with the up and coming etsy shop xox..

  2. I'm so happy you are writing again!

  3. It looks like you had a great day treasure-hunting with your mom and dad! You found so many cute things - a friend of mine made the most delicious cookies with whole-wheat flour awhile back (I think they were pumpkin - they were the most delicious and light things I've ever eaten!). Best of luck with your Etsy shop start-up, too!

  4. thanks ladies. I'm not there yet on the Etsy shop - but I definitely more motivated and ready to start working on it! Pretty exciting stuff!

@Angie - yes, feels good to be writing again. And now that I'm dabbling in editing pictures too, it's a whole new world for me. Heck, I feel like a whole different person these days - I didn't know I could be inspired to do and try so much! I'm loving it!
